How to sew with a sewing machine. Choose a simple woven material not a knit one for your first sewing experience. Select a straight stitch and a medium stitch length. Pull both threads to the side and close your bobbin case. Line up the fabric under the needle.
The stripes should run down the fabric not from selvage the finished edge on the side to selvage. It helps to have a special button attachment for your sewing machine but you can still sew on buttons even if you dont have one. Youll want to choose a fabric that has thin stripes that are about a half inch to an inch apart. I have used washi tape in the photo to make this more visible image credit.
Align the bottom of the hem so it is 38 from the needle using your sewing machine markings. Practice on some scrap material. Some people prefer to hand sew buttons because it seems difficult to sew them on with a sewing machine but the process is easier than you might think. Consult your manual for how to do this on your machine.
Using the hand wheel or downup button if you have one lower your threaded needle all the way down and back up again and it should catch the bobbin thread and pull it up with the needle thread.
